As you consider which sources to include in your project, remember to consider the bias of your sources.

• Media Bias Chart - See where a source falls on this chart in terms of Overall Source Reliability and Political Bias. 

If your news source is not in the Media Bias Chart, these sites can help you learn more about potential bias around the topic:

• FactCheck.org
• Snopes.com

Radio Station and Newspaper Websites

See below for links to some reputable news sources. Be aware that the websites for many newspapers and magazines have limits on how many articles you can read. UNLV Libraries has subscriptions to many newspapers and magazines. Links are provided below if we have a subscription.

For local and Nevada news, try the following:

• Las Vegas Review-Journal - access UNLV Libraries subscription through Press Reader or NewsBank
• Las Vegas Sun - access UNLV Libraries subscription through NewsBank
• The Nevada Independent
• Reno Gazette-Journal

Some national and international news sources:

• New York Times - set up an account with your UNLV email address to access the NY Times website or you can read individual articles through one of our databases.
  • Note: If you had an account last year, you may need to re-verify your email address at that same link.
• Wall Street Journal - set up an account with your UNLV email to access the Wall Street Journal website, or you can access the UNLV Libraries subscription through one of our databases.
• British Broadcasting Company (BBC)
• National Public Radio (NPR)
• Los Angeles Times - access the UNLV Libraries subscription through Press Reader.

Another option is to explore a database with news sources. For this assignment, we recommend NewsBank.

• NewsBank provides access to newspapers across the globe, including 50 Nevada titles. Look also for the Social Issues option lower on the page beneath the search box. See the next box for tips on using NewsBank.

Consider the following steps to improve your results in NewsBank.

1. Click on "More Search Options."

2. On the next screen, enter your topic and select "Headline." in order to search for articles with that term in the title:

3.  Look for options to limit your results on the left. You might want to limit the "Source location" to look for articles closer to home.

Another option is to explore PressReader, which provides access to lots of magazines and newspapers that UNLV Libraries has access to.
