Medical Faculty

A guide to acquaint Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine faculty with the School of Medicine Library at the Shadow Lane Campus.

Course Reserves

Course texts on reserve are currently all located at the Shadow Lane InfoCommons.

  • The InfoCommons attempts to provide electronic access to all required textbooks as well as at least two physical copies held on reserve.
    • If you are planning to add a text to your syllabus that is not already listed here, please email us at medlib@unlv.edu as far in advance as possible.
    • Please note that electronic books do not have page numbers, so referencing specific reading is best done by chapter and section titles.

Items beyond textbooks can be placed on reserve at the InfoCommons and the HSL by request and donation.

  • Items on reserve have more limited circulation and higher fines associated with loss or damage.
  • See Technology on Reserve.
  • Other items that could be placed on reserve in the future include various anatomical models, stress-relief activities, and other items which are not easily replaced but may be important to provide to library users.

Linking to Resources

We encourage you to provide links to resources from the UNLV Libraries. To ensure access, you must add a proxy to the url so that students may login with their ACE accounts if accessing the resource from home.

You have access to all of the UNLV Libraries' holdings and subscriptions, not just what the medical school has purchased.

Librarian Support

The faculty librarians at the Shadow Lane Campus are available to support the School of Medicine's teaching and research needs.

Librarians can assist with curricular instruction and student research and outreach projects in various ways, including, but not limited to:

  • Teaching how to find the best evidence and resources available for answering PBL and Clinical Questions
  • Designing learning objectives and activities that can lead towards mastery of EPA 7 and support lifelong learning
  • Helping to find resources to support health & wellness outreach projects
    • including tools for communication and health literacy best practices
  • Instruction on efficient search techniques for licensed and free databases and search engines

Please contact us at medlib@unlv.edu if you are interested in collaborating or exploring how the library can assist you in your course planning.
