Libraries Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate Program Requirements

The primary goal of University Libraries offering the Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate Program is to support student assistants in the completion of their studies at UNLV. Program completion certificates are awarded bi-annually, at the Dean’s Fall and Spring Libraries Student Assistant Welcome and Appreciation Events.

The Professional Development Certificate Program is coordinated by the Student Employment Leadership Group (SELG).

Completion of ( 6 ) total credits required in order to be eligible for the program certificate:

Core Workshops (4 credits)

Library and Research Skills (1 credit)

Academic Skills (1 credit)

Professional Preparedness Skills (1 credit)

Technology Skills (1 credit)

Electives (2 credits, any combination of)

Libraries workshops, webinars, or events approved and posted by SELG as eligible for credit in the program. 

Note: When a student assistant has completed a required credit category, workshops in that category are counted as Elective credits.

Example: Student earns one Technology credit for a Photoshop workshop, then takes a G-Suite Basics workshop (posted by the SELG as a Technology credit) the following semester. The G-Suite Basics workshop is counted as an Elective credit. 

Application for certificate (Bi-annually, Fall/Spring)

Student assistants who have earned the required ( 6 ) total credits (4 required, 2 Elective) will automatically receive a certificate award eligibility email inviting them to apply for the program completion certificate.

The eligibility email will contain a link to complete a short reflective essay and survey. 

Program completion certificates are awarded bi-annually, at the Dean’s Fall and Spring Libraries Student Assistant Welcome and Appreciation Events.

Academic Impressions, LinkedIn Learning, and the Libraries Staff Website archived training cannot be taken for Libraries Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate Program credit.

Currently, training found on Academic Impressions, LinkedIn Learning, and the Libraries Staff website webinar archive cannot be taken for Libraries Student Assistant Professional Development Certificate Program credit, but these applications offer great resources for student assistants.
