Recording Your Podcast - Video Tutorial

Tech Requirements to Record a Podcast

Tech Requirements

  1. A recording device with internet connectivity (cell-phone, laptop, etc.)
  2. A microphone (built-in or external)
  3. Headphones or headset compatible with your recording device
  4. An online recording app such as Zoom or Riverside.fm

Directions

Step 1 - Schedule your online meeting 📅

If you are utilizing an online meetings app such as Zoom, Google Meets, or Riverside.fm, make sure to schedule your recording meeting well in advance.

If you are recording a group, it is highly recommended for everyone to use headphones or a headset during the meeting. Make sure you are aware of any recording limitations with your app of choice.

Step 2 - Set up your audio inputs and outputs 🔉〰🎤

Depending on which online recording app you are using, you will need to ensure that your microphone input and your headphone output are set to the correct devices.

This process will look slightly different depending on which device and recording app you are using.

Step 3 - Make sure to hit Record! 🔴

The "record" button on some online meeting platforms can be difficult to find. Make sure you are familiar with these controls before the date of your recording. Running a test recording a few days in advance is a good way to test your recording apps' features.

Step 4 - Need additional help? ❓

Make an appointment with an expert! We can help you during any stage of your process.

Tech Requirements

  1. An audio recording device (cell-phone, laptop, etc.)
  2. An audio recording app
  3. A quiet space

Directions

Step 1 - Find a space 🏡

With your script ready to go, find a quiet space where you can comfortably record.

Avoid big, empty spaces. Instead, find a room with carpet flooring, a bed, or lots of furniture. These objects help absorb sound reflections and will help avoid hollow sounding recordings.

Step 2 - Test your tech. 🔉〰🎤

Figure out what recording device and app you will use.

  • For example, you can use a voice recorder app on your smartphone.
  • If you are working on a laptop, you can use something like Bandlab or Zoom
  • Make sure you are aware of any recording limitations with your app of choice

Ensure your recording device is charged and that the built in microphone is in good working order. We highly recommend doing a test recording.
