Resources from OA Week 2023

There is no shortage of open access and publishing-related resources available. A few highlighted at the workshop and trivia table are listed below.

  • Spectra - UNLV's open access undergraduate research journal published by the Office of Undergraduate Research
  • Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology - published by the UNLV Department of Kinesiology & Nutrition Sciences
  • Tradition Innovations in Arts, Design, and Media Higher Education - published by the UNLV College of Fine Arts
• UNLV Open Article Fund - Fund to support tenured/tenure-track faculty authors when publishing in a fully open access journal
• Directory of Open Access Journals - Having a hard time finding an OA journal? Trying to find an OA journal with no or low article processing charges? The DOAJ is a great place to start.
• Think-Check-Submit - Did you find a journal to publish in? Use Think-Check-Submit to evaluate that journal before you submit your article.
• Public Access Policy (the "Nelson Memo") - The U.S. Federal Government's request to federal agencies to support making publications and data that result from federal funds publicly accessible.

This year we are celebrating International Open Access Week with a workshop and OA week trivia in the Lied Library lobby.

Campus event: Pop-up: Let's Chat about Open Access (Tuesday, October 24)

Not sure what "open access" means? Are you interested in open access, but not sure how to make your work open? 

Stop by our table in the Lied Library lobby to meet with Scholarly Communication Librarian, Andrea Wirth, ask questions and get information on open access and challenge yourself with open access trivia! Small swag items will be available to participants in the OA trivia and one lucky participant will win a bag of library swag!

• When/Where: Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (no registration needed, just stop by)

Campus event: Introduction to Open Access Publishing (Wednesday, October 25)

This workshop will introduce attendees to open access publishing from the author's perspective. We will cover publishing in an OA journal, sharing your final, peer reviewed manuscript for just about any journal, and what to watch out for when selecting a journal in which to publish.
