Adding a Readership Map to a Libguide

These instructions show how to add a Digital Scholarship@UNLV readership map to a LibGuide.

You will need to have a browser window open for both Digital Scholarship and also for the LibGuide you are working on in edit mode.

  1. Navigate to the map in Digital Scholarship you want to show on your Libguide

  2. Click the <embed> button on the lower left corner of the map

  3. Choose standard (this size seems to fit well on our LibGuide layout)

  4. In the LibGuide browser window, choose the page you are going to place the map on.

  5. Create a new Rich Text/HTML content  section (not Media/Widget)

  6. Choose the “source” view option

  7. Paste both parts of the text from the Readership Embed page (the script) into the LibGuide Box

  8. Find the url for the published page of the Libguide (e.g. http://guides.library.unlv.edu/hospitality)

  9. Enter the url where the map will reside after the origin tag in the script code (delete the placeholder text) - see below for an example.

  10. Save your LibGuide changes

  11. The map will not display correctly in edit view. Use preview to determine if it is working.

Adding an RSS feed from Digital Scholarship to LibGuides

  1. In Digital Scholarship (DS), navigate to the Department or College you want to create an RSS feed for. For Colleges, you will need to click on the College (e.g. College of Fine Arts), to locate the college-level ETD collection. Department Collections are available from the navigation on communities page.
  2. Once on the page you wish to create an RSS feed for, choose "Notify me via email or RSS" in the left side navigation.
  3. Click the orange RSS button
  4. Copy the url for the feed
  5. Add an RSS section to the module/box in LibGuides and follow the prompts to name the feed, determine where the description can be seen, and how many items to display.

*Note that the description includes abstract, keywords, and more. It will keep the page neater if the hover over option is selected.

Below is an example of how a DS feed will display in LibGuides using the instructions included here.
