Welcome to your home for recording help!

Hello, everyone! My name is Leah and I'm the Multimedia and Design Specialist for UNLV Libraries.

I'm thrilled to be working with you this semester in THTR 491. Though things are a little different than we may be used to... I'm still here to help you with all your recording needs throughout this course. Don't hesitate to reach out to me or another audio expert with anything you need.

Let's get Audacity

Audacity is free and open-source software for recording and editing audio. It works on both Macs and PCs. This is a great tool to use because you'll be able to access Audacity long after you complete this course - you can download it on any computer, anytime, for free.

First, I'm going to walk you through a couple of steps to getting Audacity set up on your computer. You can also download Audacy on any library or computer lab computer at UNLV, but just keep in mind that those computers are wiped every time a user logs off, so don't forget to SAVE everything you worked on during your session.

Your first stop for getting help with Audacity is going to be a LinkedIn Learning tutorial by Garrick Chow. I'm going to be referring to certain parts of the tutorial to help you through the learning process, so you'll need to have access to the tutorial videos. All you need for access is to log into LinkedIn Learning with your ACE account.

1. Head to LinkedIn Learning and sign in with your ACE account now.

So let's get started with downloading and installing Audacity on your computer. You can watch the Download and install Audacity video under the Getting Started section of Garrick Chow's Audacity tutorial on LinkedIn Learning for help with this part. Or, if you are already comfortable with installing software, you can simply head directly to, scroll down a bit, and click the blue DOWNLOAD AUDACITY button, then follow the steps for installation.

WARNING! Download the software directly from the Audacity website - not from any other site you find from doing a simple Google search. Why? Because you may be downloading additional malicious software bundled with Audacity onto your computer if you use another site.

2. Download and install Audacity now.

Congratulations, you did it! That's it for getting Audacity set up on your computer.

Need help? No problem! If things didn't quite work out the way you were expecting while downloading and installing Audacity, I'm here to help. My contact information is under my picture on the left side of this page.
