Broaden/ Expand Your Search

"And" or "Not" connector between concepts

Or” connector between synonyms

When to use:  when you want articles about both concepts

"social media" AND "adolescents" will return articles that are about social media in the context of adolescents--this gives you fewer, but more focused results

When to use: when you want articles that can use either one of two similar concepts

"social media" OR "Facebook" will return articles that use the terms "social media" or "Facebook"--this gives you more, but less focused, results

If you need an item that UNLV Libraries doesn't have available, you always have the option of InterLibrary Loan (ILLiad). Sometimes in QuickSearch you'll try to navigate to the item you want and instead you'll see a link that says "Request from another library (interlibrary loan)". That means a nearby library will either scan the item and e-mail it to your ILL account OR they will mail the item to UNLV Libraries for you to pick up.

  • ILLiad Logon: Link to log in, access your items, cancel requests, or see what's going on with an item.
  • ILL Directions: Link to directions helping you get your ILL account set up the first time and using ILLiad.
