Quick Tips for Finding Articles

Synonyms can be very helpful throughout the investigative and research process. Using synonyms with boolean operators can potentially expand your search. Databases with subject headings or controlled vocabularies like MeSH in PubMed often have a thesaurus that can match you with appropriate terms.

 Adolescent, Young Adult

Boolean operators allow you to manipulate your search.

Use AND to narrow your search

  eg. teen AND diabetes

Use OR to broaden your search

  eg. adolescent OR teen

Use NOT to exclude terms from your search

  eg. children NOT infants

Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery Services

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a UNLV Libraries’ subsidized service which supports the scholarly research and curriculum needs of current UNLV faculty, staff and students by obtaining materials from libraries around the world.  The materials include article, book, book chapter, microform, video, DVD, CD, dissertation/thesis.  Interlibrary Loan supplements the resources directly owned or licensed by the UNLV Libraries.

  • Most articles arrive within 24 hours, and books arrive within a week. Turnaround time may be affected by scarcity of sources, distance of sources, holidays and weekends, or incomplete information about the requested item.

  • Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment and fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

  • To place your request, first you must register your rebel card barcode and activate your library account at the circulation desk.  Then, create a new ILL account by clicking "First Time Users Click Here" button.

  • Items borrowed on Interlibrary Loan are subject to the loan policies and due date of the lending library; usually 4-12 weeks loan period.

Document Delivery is a local service that provides article and book chapter scans from the UNLV Libraries' print collection (journals books and other materials) to UNLV students, faculty and staff. These documents are scanned and posted on our server for easy access and you receive a link to the electronic document via e-mail to view, download, or print.  There is no charge or fee for using this service at this time.
