Zotero quick overview

How to use emojis as tags in zotero

Zotero 6 allows you to create tags using an emoji. You can pick up to 9 emoji tags that will be visible next to item titles in your library.

First, select an item in your library and go to the Tags pane. Create new tags and paste in the emojis you select.

These will work the same way as normal zotero tags.

To make them show up next to the title on your library page, you need to use the Assign Color... option in the tag management pane.

Find the tag management pane in the lower left. Highlight an emoji and right-click it to get a contextual menu with the Assign Color... option.

You'll be prompted to choose a color and a number from 1-9. The numbers are a shortcut you can use to quickly assign the emoji.

Highlight an article in your library and type the number you assigned to your emoji tag and it will immediately be tagged. Hit it again to remove it. You can tag items with multiple emojis (up to 9) if you want to.

UNLV proxy settings

If you hit a paywall when reading academic journals on the web, Zotero can reload the page for you through UNLV Libraries' journal subscriptions and you can get access with your ACE account. Here's how to configure that.

You'll need the zotero browser connector installed. Right click the connector to get the Options menu:

and check off the box that says Enable Proxy Redirection.

This will open a configuration box. In the box labeled Scheme, paste in

%h.ezproxy.library.unlv.edu/%p

Adding UNLV's OpenURL Link Resolver

In the Preferences menu, select the Advanced icon. In the General tab, select University of Nevada, Las Vegas from the OpenURL menu.

When you use the Library Lookup feature, this setting will use the UNLV Find Text service to link to articles that have not been saved as PDFs. You'll be prompted to use your ACE login for access.
