Las Vegas Book Festival The Vegas Valley Book Festival is a celebration of the written, spoken, and illustrated word. The festival has networked together a community-wide consortium of cultural organizations and sponsors to offer “a one-stop shopping experience for literature” through a wide range of programs built around sharing resources, developing audiences, advancing the craft of writing, and sharing the joys of reading. This annual festival is the largest literary event in Nevada, drawing more than 10,000 attendees during the season. Since its founding in 2002, the festival has presented over 800 authors and speakers and has produced or sponsored over 500 events, sessions, readings, workshops, and book signings. The festival is free and open to the public.
LVCVA Volunteer Portal Las Vegas is quickly evolving from “Entertainment Capital of the World” to “Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World” with the explosive growth of professional sports leagues and live sporting events coming to Las Vegas. With a rich history of hosting premier sporting events such as championship boxing and MMA, golf, NASCAR, rodeo, Minor League Baseball, and NCAA Basketball and more recent additions of the National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), United Soccer League (USL), American Hockey League (AHL), National Lacrosse League (NLL), and Indoor Football League (IFL) the destination is reaching new heights. This ongoing renaissance for Las Vegas sports and special events has created both a need and an unprecedented opportunity for our community to get involved and share the excitement.

Spread the Word Nevada Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s literacy nonprofit, 501 (C)(3) corporation, dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Southern Nevada’s at-risk, low income communities. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 4.7 million gently used and new books to more than 515,000 low-income youth in Southern Nevada.

UNLV is home to several groups that represent the shared interests, backgrounds, and goals of our diverse faculty and staff. The groups offer networking opportunities, seminars, workshops, off-campus activities, resources, and professional development. UNLV’s faculty and staff affinity groups build community and shape the workplace.

American Indian Alliance The UNLV American Indian Alliance includes employees who are academic and administrative faculty members as well as those who are in classified positions. Our goal is to speak and act as a unified body for UNLV’s Native American population.
Council of African-American Professionals The Council of African-American Professionals (CAAP@UNLV) was created in the fall of 2013 to promote diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency, with a particular focus on black faculty, staff, administrators, and students at UNLV, and issues that affect our professional development and career advancement.

Orgs That Need an Advisor Don't just join a campus organization, lead one! These student organizations are seeking faculty-rank advisors.
Outdoor Adventures Faculty and staff can rent outdoor adventure equipment or join in on planned trips (single and multi-day) that are open to students, staff, faculty, and the greater Las Vegas community.
Sports Clubs While most sports clubs are limited to student participants, some clubs allow faculty and staff to join a team. All sports clubs have large and active support communities which include faculty-rank fans.

Women's Council The Women's Council advocates for a high quality work-life, contributes to the creation, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives designed to ensure equitable and respectful treatment, and promotes the value and support of professional success and personal growth on behalf of women on campus.
