The following guide has been created to introduce graduate students to UNLV Libraries with information on how to obtain assistance, access, and use library resources in their respective disciplines.
Every college or department at UNLV has a liaison librarian with special subject expertise assigned to it. They can assist you with locating resources related to your research area, help you with creating effective research database searching strategies, and more!
If you are teaching as well (particularly a class with a research component), library liaisons can work with you to provide library instruction for your students to help them learn how to locate and evaluate relevant resources.
Contact Information for Liaison Librarians, click HERE.
The Research Consultation room on the first floor of Lied Library is a space specifically for research assistance with librarians, one-on-one or in groups. You can request an appointment by going to the “meet with a librarian” link on the upper right of the Libraries’ homepage. Your request will go directly to the liaison librarian in your subject area.
The Libraries have a workshop series each semester, and attendance counts towards the Graduate College Research Certificate Program. They are on a broad array of research-related topics ranging from locating grants and fellowships to strategies for developing an effective literature review.
Check back for information on the workshop topics, schedules, and link to registration.
Activate your ACE Account & Register Your RebelCard
Activating the accounts allows students to access electronic resources off campus, borrow books the library does not own, and renew your books online. This can be done 24/7 no matter where you are.
Activate Your ACE Account: https://ace.unlv.edu/
Students: Take your RebelCard to any UNLV Libraries circulation desk at Lied Library (or to any branch, Art & Architecture, TDRL, or Music).
Faculty, Professionals & Part-time Instructors Only: Register your card online by clicking this link or take your RebelCard to any UNLV Libraries circulation desk at Lied Library (or to any branch: Art & Architecture, TDRL, or Music).
Create Additional Library-Related Accounts
UNLV Libraries has all the resources you would expect from a library supporting a comprehensive research institution. And, what we do not have, we can get it for you via Interlibrary Loan with rapid electronic delivery for articles and book chapters (see your liaison librarian for help).
The Libraries will also send electronically to your desktop PDFs of UNLV-owned journal articles and book chapters, saving you a trip to the library. You request this through Interlibrary Loan. Most libraries only have this service for faculty!!!
Create an Illiad account on the link below to register for this service:
Illiad: Use this account to get articles, books and other resources from our interlibrary loan system that are not available through UNLV Libraries for free by clicking here.
Use Time-saving Library Services
RefWorks: Software that will allow you to store, organize and format your research citations via the Internet automatically (see video below)
Google Scholar is a subset of Google that is designed to search for academic and scholarly articles and books online.

In addition to Lied Library, there are three branch libraries that serve specific subject areas (Music, Curriculum Materials for Education, and Architecture). There is also a law library. Every library has a service desk where you can get assistance.
