Lied Library Space Enhancement Project: Summer 2016 Project Alert

Project Alert - Summer 2016 - June 27 update

As part of the Lied Library Space Enhancement Project, construction and related projects will be taking place in the building during the summer.  Beginning​ WednesdayJune 29, crews will be in Lied Library to complete​ Part II of this summer's planned​ projects, which may​ impact you.  Parts I (computer furniture replacement) and II​I​ (booth install on the 5th floor) have already been completed.​​

Part II:

The Leisure Reading zone on the 2nd floor will undergo several changes: 

  • Existing furniture will be moved out to allow for construction.  
  • A new noise-dampening wall will be built over the existing western wall.
  • A new lighting system will be installed.
  • New digital screens will be installed for digital library exhibits and marketing.
  • New shelving will be installed for the expanded leisure reading collection, newspapers, popular magazine times, and feature films.  
  • The Hellmann Gallery will be refurbished, and existing photos will be reframed for archival purposes.
    The reframed photos will be mounted on the wall using a wireless hanging system.  (This portion​ of the project is complete​.​)
  • ​T​he new PressReader kiosks will debut in the space.
  • New styles of furniture have been procured and will be installed throughout the space.  
The current Leisure Reading print collection will be temporarily relocated ​very shortly​, and will be housed on top of the Reference Collection on the 1st floor.

The ​area highlighted in ths floorplan will be closed to users and library staff for the duration of this project.  Access will remain for the main entrance to the adjacent staff work area; emergency exit access will remain via the back door to the same work area.​
 
Anticipated project impact dates:  Furniture relocation: June ​29​.  Construction:  July 1 - late August.​  Impact​ dates​ are estimates only, and may change without notice.

As part of the Lied Library Space Enhancement Project, construction and related projects will be taking place in the building during the summer.  Beginning Friday, May 13, crews will be in Lied Library to complete several projects that may impact you.

Part I:

Computer furniture on the 2nd floor will be replaced.  Computers will not be available on the 2nd floor during this time. Access to the flexible group study zone adjacent to the computer furniture will also be restricted.  Areas closed for this project will be similar to the closures in November 2015; a floorplan illustrating this closure area is attached.  Anticipated project impact times:  Friday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 25.

Movers are scheduled to be in Lied on Friday, May 13 to assist with the preparation of this space and others that will be affected by upcoming projects.  Additional areas impacted on Friday only will be:  the future Leisure Reading zone; the Hellmann Gallery; the former Small Business Development Center adjacent to Tutoring; the overhang/central atrium open space on the 5th floor; and the living room area behind the elevators on the 5th floor.  Once furniture moves are complete, these areas will reopen.

Part II:

Part III:

Booths will be installed on the 5th floor overhang space in early June.  Anticipated project impact times:  June 6-9, 2016.
