Special Collections is the only area of library collections that is growing in physical format. Prior to the construction of this intake and processing space, the library did not have anywhere to process large collections. Once items are received, organized, and prepared for storage, they can easily be moved to the adjacent Lied Automated Storage and Retrieval (LASR) system. Before photos of the LASR floor space and Special Collections storage are below, along with after photographs of the new intake and processing area.
Also included in this project was the construction of additional storage space on the 3rd floor of the library, between the Digital Collections & Special Collections departments. This storage allows for easy access and secure storage for archival items, such as those being processed for new digital collections initiatives.
