Grants, Funding and Grant Writing

Program is the premier higher education leadership development initiative in the country. It identifies & prepares senior faculty & administrators to become skilled in the leadership of change. Candidates, with a mininum of five years experience as faculty members or admin, must be nominated by president or senior officer of their institution. No more than two candidates may be nominated from any campus. Host institutions must cost share. A few small grants may also be awarded, based on need, to nominating institutions

 Postdoc Research Leave Fellowships ($30,000/year
 for one year of research) & Dissertation
 Fellowships ($20,000 for the final year of doctoral
 work) support women who have achieved distinction
 or promise in any field (except engineering) & are
 citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
 Summer/Short-Term Research Publication Grants fund
 women college & university faculty & independent
 researchers to prepare research for publication.
 Must hold a Ph.D. to apply. International
 Fellowships also provided for women who are not
 U.S. citizens

 Provides 20 non-renewable fellowships of $25,000 to
 support students at U.S. graduate schools in the
 write-up stage of their dissertation research.
 Topics should center generally on education, & may
 touch on issues of socialization, economics or
 cultural knowledge, but graduate study may be in
 any academic discipline. Applicants should be
 interested in pursuing work in the education field
 upon completion of their degree. U.S. citizenship
 not required.

Offers awards in the performing and visual arts, primarily by providing individual fellowship grants to artists, scholars, students and specialists from Asia for study, research, travel and creative work in the U.S. Grants are also awarded to Americans engaged in similar activities in Asia and to arts organizations and educational institutions for specific projects of particular significance to Asian-American cultural exchange. Deadline refers to required LOIs.

Supports proposals to bring scholars and professionals from abroad to U.S. colleges and universities that infrequently or never have the opportunity to host visiting scholars. In addition to teaching courses, scholars give campus-wide and community lectures, help initiate international programs, and contribute to curriculum development. Program is especially appropriate for small liberal arts colleges, minority-serving institutions, and community colleges. Some preference is given to humanities and social science programs, but other fields focusing on international activities are considered.

Supports overseas projects in training, research, & curriculum development in modern foreign languages & area studies for groups of teachers, students, & faculty engaged in a common endeavor. Projects may include short-term seminars, curriculum development, group research or study, or advanced intensive language projects. Applications for Canada and Western Europe will not be funded. In FY 09, approximately $2.3 million was available to fund 30 awards. Full FY 10 competition details expected soon.

The program provides short-term study and travel seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities for the purpose of improving their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries.
Support is generally made available through interagency agreements. The Department of Education transfers funds through the State Department to Fulbright commissions in various countries to pay the costs associated with administering seminars. This partnership allows the program to use the services and expertise of binational organizations to plan and conduct seminars for U.S. educators.

There are approximately seven to ten seminars annually with fourteen to sixteen participants in each seminar. Seminars are four to six weeks in duration. All seminars are held in countries outside of Western Europe.

Terms of the award include a round-trip economy airfare, room and board, tuition and fees, and program-related travel within the host country.

Supports a variety of programs that focus on one or more of the following priority areas: Education, Literacy, Domestic Violence Prevention, Health Care and Accessibility, and Internet Safety. Most grants awarded are up to $10,000. Foundation reviews unsolicited proposals on a continuous calendar year basis from January 1st through October 31st. Applicants must apply online

The six competitions are: Education Research Grants (84.305A); Special Education Research Grants (84.324A); Postdoctoral Research Training Program in the Education Sciences (84.305B); Postdoctoral Research Training Program in Special Education (84.324B); Statistical and Research Methodology in Education (84.305D); and Evaluation of State and Local Education Programs and Policies (84.305E). ).

Supports the expansion of opportunities for information technology professionals to attend EDUCAUSE events, thus helping to build future leaders. Fellowships recognize a combination of past achievement, personal and institutional commitment, potential benefit, and financial need. The number and amount of fellowship awards vary by year. Award amounts cover registration fees and may also cover travel and hotel expenses.

 Supports research, demonstrations, & training to
 improve judicial administration of the state
 courts. Preference is given to projects that have
 national significance. Offers six types of grants:  

 Supports activities to reduce shortages of highly
 qualified teachers in high-need school districts.
 Eligible applicants are states, or partnerships
 consisting of high need local educational agencies,
 teacher preparation institutions, or schools of
 arts & sciences. Recipients must carry out a needs
 assessment & then design & implement recruitment
 activities. ARRA amount: $143 million.

Support for up to two years of graduate study in
 the U.S. for new Americans who are either a
 resident alien, i.e., holds a Green Card; or, has
 been naturalized as a U.S. citizen, or is the child
 of two parents who are both naturalized citizens.
 The recipients are chosen on a nationally
 competitive basis. Thirty fellowships will be
 awarded each year. Eligibility limited to those who
 are 30 or younger as of 11/1/09. Fellows receive a
 maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two
 installments) & a tuition grant of one-half the
 tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended
 by the Fellow.

Undergraduate Program supports interdisciplinary projects and creative new approaches with technology, pedagogy or student/faculty engagement. Applicants are encouraged to share knowledge and resources across institutions. Applicants are restricted to schools located in central and western states. Restrictions may apply to funds going to conduit or supporting organizations.
