Topic: "Bacterial Antibiotic Resistance: The Power of Evolution"

Despite the discovery of antibiotics in the 1920s, bacterial infections continue to be a major health hazard mainly because of antibiotic resistance. A major reason why bacteria become resistant to antibiotics: Their ability to mutate to confer resistance. A new drug development paradigm inhibits factors that can be synergistically combined with current drugs to reduce expression of disease factors and the acquisition of antibiotic resistance.
